This was the first year any of us have chased after mule deer in Colorado; however, we’d gone after elk twice before. Having a mule deer tag in the group ended up being a wise decision, as they were certainly more plentiful than the elk in the area.
There were enough elk to leave sign and get us excited a few times. The elk that were in easy range weren’t legal bulls, with the exception of one on the last morning. We’d be fairly confident in chasing elk again in the same area. Both times we’ve gone, we’ve learned a bunch about their travel patterns.
I will be uploading a gear list video, as well as discussing this hunt in the third DIY Sportsman podcast episode.
