We caught this sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River in Minnesota. Length and girth calculations (65″ long with a 30″ girth) put this fish right around 80 pounds. It was released after a couple minutes of revival in the current. Lake sturgeon up there can be kept if between 45-50″ or over 75″ (a state record) with a bag limit of one per person with a $5 tag. The rig that we used to catch the fish was a 4oz weight above a swivel. The swivel was tied to 18″ of braided line (65lb test, the same as the main line) and a 4/0 circle hook with 3 nightcrawlers.
