The first aid kit I’ve used for the past few years was a small kit from REI. While it was was small and light, it wouldn’t have benefited me in the case of a real emergency. I’m by no means a medical expert, so you won’t see packing sutures, etc. My main goal if something serious does happen, is to stay alive until I can get professional help. The Get Home Alive LITE kit strikes a nice balance because it caters to the lightweight nature of many backpackers, hikers, and hunters like myself, but also has the additional compression bandage and tourniquet. Of course, the goal is that this is the one piece of gear in your pack that you never need to use, but I certainly now have some added peace of mind.
If you have any suggestions for what you carry in your personal first aid kit, I’d love to hear them!
